Camp Overview

Training camp opens this year with lower expectations than usual. The Steelers go into camp still carrying that five game losing streak from last year, which was only their second losing season in the last ten years. That doesn't mean hope is not alive however. The Steelers want to get right back into the hunt for the AFC Central, especially since 10 of our 16 games this year will be played inside the division. In order to do that, the Steelers must answer questions now - questions such as who will step up at wide receiver? Is the offensive line, which crumbled at this time last year, finally secure again? Will Kevin Gilbride turn Kordell Stewart back into the star quarterback he was supposed to become? How is the defense going to exist without Carnell Lake? Can Jon Witman block even half as well as Tim Lester could? Do we have anyone that can kick field goals this year, or are we just gonna go for it on 4th downs like in Tennessee last season? What will Troy Edwards say next? How come we're still going to be playing pre-season games on Labor Day weekend? Where is everyone supposed to park this year now that they're building two new stadiums on the North Shore? Ok, now I'm just rambling, but this time of the year, although much too long, will set the course for a team's season. As we've seen in the past, when important questions aren't answered now and positions don't get filled before September, it hurts the team all throughout the season.
