Your Feedback

Thanks to everyone for your great feedback. Here are some of your responses:

I keep coming back for more! It's a great site for an out-of-towner Steelers fan to keep in touch with both his team and city. Great to hear it from a true fan's perspective. Now it's time for the Tomlin era! Go Steelers.

Jim (February 09, 2007 2:08 PM)

Thanks for providing the effort and love to keep this site going for the past ten years! I've been there the whole time, and it's my favorite site relating to the Steelers. One of the things I enjoy most, is watching you make uncanny predictions that come true. One that comes to mind was a game against Baltimore years back. The Ravens were flapping their jaws to the media, and I think out of frustration at their comments, you predicted that the Ravens first pass would be intercepted and run back for a Steeler touchdown. I watched im amazement, as when the Ravens on their first series of downs, and on their first pass, low and behold was picked off. It wasn't returned for a touchdown, but I loved it nonetheless. I believe you also correctly predicted the order of finish in the division this past season, which amazed me considering WE WON THE SUPER BOWL the year before. It would have been easy for you to be biased in your prediction, but you wrote what you felt, and I think thats admirable.

I hope this site never dies, because losing it would be like losing a friend of ten years. Good Luck, and THANKS!

Looking at your old '97 template, one thing comes to mind: Words sell, not pictures. What makes yours the best Steeler site around is the fact that you are a kick-ass writer. Congratulations again!

I have been checking this site for the past few years every week and it is so amazing to have Steeler news coming from another person who is part of Steeler Nation.

As for favorite moments (besides the Super Bowl XL Victory being the younger members of the Steeler Nation's Championship, which was the first Steeler Super Bowl victory I was able to see.) One really sticks out in my mind because it was the ultimate vindication game for my Mother and I.

1. When Pittsburgh went into Denver for the AFC Championship Game for the 2005 AFC Championship and killed the miserable Broncos. Why it was so special was that I grew up in Denver, and my Mom (both of us die-hard Steeler fans, unlike my Dad who is a Broncos fan) and I were constantly harassed by obnoxious Denver fans.(who from personal experience I must say are BY FAR THE MOST FAIR-WEATHER FANS IN THE COUNTRY!). Anyway, we put up with the same crap in the Denver papers knocking Cowher for being "a golden retriever" and "40 Year Old Cheerleader" (which I'm glad you recognized on your website) and the rest of the B.S. the Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News spewed out that week directed at a future coaching legend in Canton, as well as the other ridiculous pro-Denver Broncos stuff which made us absolutely loathe that franchise. (which has done squat since Elway left the Franchise, apparantley no one is good enough for that city now that he is gone.)

Anyway, I was in school when the Broncos beat the Steelers back in the '97 Championship Game. And much like that kid who wore an Elway Jersey and got harassed at school in Pittsburgh, I decided to still show my pride and in a similar fashion wore my Steelers sweater to school the next week on School Sponsored "Bronco Day" and faced similar razzing which that kid did, but I held my head high knowing my Mom and I still cheered for the right team.

Waiting for 8 more years and 2 Denver Super Bowls I still didn't care too much they lost that game, because "what goes around, comes around." I knew karma would catch up to that miserable franchise and city whose fans were shown to be booing their own "beloved team" at halftime of the 2005 AFC Championship at "Majestic Mile High/Invesco or whatever they call it now."

I knew after the Cedrick Wilson Touchdown where he beat Bailey and left his jock strap lying on the field, Pittsburgh had the game wrapped up, becuase the crowd of "Denver Fans" were out of it. And gleefully watched as Pittsburgh put on a clinic the rest of the game. (The best part though was calling my Dad asking him what the score was at halftime (after the Ward touchdown) and him not wanting to talk and wanting to turn "the crap off.")

8 long years I waited and it happened for my Mom and I! We watched as the team we absolutely love crushed the team we absolutely loath on their home field to move on to the Super Bowl!!!!! (and since a #14 who shall remain nameless wasn't under center we both knew they had a way better chance than 10 years prior)

Anyway, summing it up, thank you for creating this wonderful website and here's to another amazing 10 years!

Hey, I love all your posts. As a Steeler Nation member in the ATL (where by the way, has a large group of Steeler fans), it's good to see and laugh at most of the gems that you put out. You have a lot of good stuff and stats on this web site and you are the one of the few people I know that thinks Joey "the Mouth" Porter is overrated as I do. I love Porter, but please shut up and play already! For me, the best moment as a Steeler fan the last ten years is a tie: the Antwaan Randle El pass to Hines Ward in the Super Bowl XL (obviously) and Jerome Bettis trucking over Brian Urlacher in the snow in the December game against the Bears that got the Steelers rolling into the greatest postseason run in pro football history and possibly sports history. The worst moments in the last ten years were the games against the Oakland Raiders this past season and the first game against the Ravens this season because they both were so awful in every which way and I was almost embarrassed to be a Steeler fan for the first time in my life both times. I hope the Steelers bounce back with Mike Tomlin in 2007 and come back with a vengeance. You should also post the best draft picks that the Steelers had the last ten years (I think Alan Faneca in 1998) and the worst the last ten years (I know it's Alonzo Jackson in the second round 2002). Waiting for more good Steeler news from you in the near future. Black and Gold forever!

First off, let me start by giving you my highest praise to you and your website, it has been an absolute pleasure reading your commentary over the years, especially during the season. I also think you are a great writer who nails it on the head every time, whatever the topic or issue may be.

I became a die-hard Steelers fan before the 1997 season; I was 8 years old at the time. I remember the 1995 AFC Championship Game and Superbowl XXX, and the 1996 playoffs, but 1997 was the first year I watched every play of every game and thoroughly enjoyed it. Because 1997 was my "rookie" year, for the longest time, I always placed that season above the others - and for good reason. That '97 season was one of the wildest, most memorable in Steelers history, and we almost made it to Superbowl XXXII.

One of my "sixth sense" things for me is that I remember exact times and places in history, so with that, I honestly remember, from the start of 1997 onward, every Steelers game that has occured (score, some statistics, weather during the game, where I watched it and with whom, etc.) 1997 provided me with some of my favorite Steelers moments ... beating the Jags and Cardinals in OT, beating Denver and New England down the stretch to clinch the #2 seed in the playoffs, and who can forget the career years Kordell Stewart, Jerome Bettis, Yancey Thigpen, Joel Steed, and Levon Kirkland had? In short, the 1997 Steelers set the bar for me and the expectations of the teams to come.

Of course we all struggled through 1998 and 1999 seasons, and 2000 started off the same way. Fortunately, I did not witness the end of the Cleveland game, I only listened with disbelief on WDVE in my car on my way to an event. I taped the end of the game because I was to miss it, but I never watched it for the sake of my blood pressure; your terrible memories of it were enough for me.

2000 was also the year I came across this website, I'll admit it was an accident. I had "Yahoo" searched "Myron Cope" and that brought me to to your site; you had mentioned Myron Cope in your recap of the Skins-Steelers game (the final game at Three Rivers) so I'm guessing that is why it appeared in conjuction with your site. Easily the best internet off-course website find I ever made!

Finally, the 2005 AFC Championship game was another high-up memory for me. Being a die-hard fan starting in 1997, I had seen three Steelers teams collaspe in the AFC Championship Game, each one being more painful that the last. During that '05 game, I was at Seven Springs Mt. Resort watching in a jam-packed bar area. When Ben ran the bootleg and dove into the endzone to send us to the Superbowl, my uncle, who has a real loud voice, yelled out, "I've got a feeling..." then of course the rest of the room responded, "PITTSBURGH'S GOING TO THE SUPERBOWL!" That was probably the happiest, most proud moment for me because in my mind, the AFC Championship Game was the Superbowl, and all I wanted to see was Bill Cowher holding up that Lamar Hunt trophy again. It had eluded us so many times, and I just wanted one chance to see us reach the Superbowl. Of coure we all know what happened two weeks later, but for me, that was way too cool!

On your 10th anniversary, I want to thank you for your hard work with the site. After every game, I can't wait to read your recaps! Starting in July, I'll be attending the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, so I'm unsure as to how many games I'll be able to see over the next couple years, especially my first year. I definitely will have to start a totally internet interest with the Steelers, and you know I'll be going to Steelertribute.com every time to get my news and recaps! Again, thanks a lot, and keep it up for another 10 years and beyond! [editor's note: thanks, and God bless you for serving our country]

Dustin (February 05, 2007 5:43 PM)

Hey,

Just wanted to say that I expect another 10 years of excellence....which shouldnt be too hard for you to accomplish since your site is the best on the web. I have been a "Steeler Tribute Addict" since I was 12 years old when this site first started and I still enjoy your insights. Granted, I disagree on some stuff; i.e. Joey Porters importance to the team as far as an intimidating presence, but I still am loyal to the site. So keep it up. Nobody else has the steel balls to do so....especially not way out here in New Mexico. Thanks again!!!!

Dustin (NM's biggest Steelers fan!!!)

Kevin Green (February 05, 2007 5:42 PM)

Hello,

I have been following this site for about 5 or 6 years. I have always been impressed with your coverage and analysis over the years. I really love the Countdown Feature and your mid-season reports. Your game recaps just get better and better and this year, despite so bad games (like the Raiders game) you can still make it less bad as it is with simple humour. Even though I am more partial to PSU than Pitt (I don't remember the rivlary years), I still think that "(Penn State Sucks)" thing is still funny.

I hope you keep running the website the way you have these past years. There have been rare times when I have disagreed with what you have written. That was the Broncos game this year. I didn't think Ben was playing well despite the 400+ yards he racked up. I didn't expect him to be himself, especially after the Atlanta game, but then again, how many times have you seen a Steeler QB throw for 400 yards?

Of all the Steeler moments this decade, my favorite is not the Super Bowl (though it is sooooo close you have no idea how though it is for me to pick between these three) it is a tie between the 2004 21 and done game against the Patriots. I had gotten so much crap that week that the Steelers are "overrated" and I am a front runner or fair weather fan and that Ben Roethlisberger would crack under pressure. When game time rolled around I was nervous, but it settled after Ben got in a grove. then came the Deshea Townsend pick-six. That is one of my top five favorite Steeler moments of this decade. The next game is the divisional playoff game last year. Perfect execution by the offense all day long and a stingy defense that kept Manning and the offense out of the end zone until late second half. The end of that game was like a crazy roller coaster. It was up (Troy's pick) then down (Touchdown and 2 point play) then UP, WAY UP (Stopping Manning on 4th) then WAY DOWN and UP at the same time (Bettis fumble, Ben's Tackle) then to scared (Manning guiding them into field goal range and then finally to unbelievable elation, joy, and excitement (Vandershank's miss). My favorite Super Bowl moments from the Steelers are:
-Bus leading us out of the tunnle
-Ben's sick throw on 3 and the field.
-Ben's TD run (he was in and I like your pic to prove it)
-Willie's run to daylight (Eat it Walrus!!!! GOOD BYE!!!)
-Our second half defense (We were solid until that pick that set up the TD catch by Stevens)
-The reverse pass. This was an absolute beautiful trick play. El threw one great ball and Hines danced his way towards an MVP.
-The post game celebration. Everything about this gave me tears and chills. From Dan Rooney recieving the trophy from Cowher to Hines getting his due to The bus announcing retirement infront of a throng of Steeler fans. It must have been something to be there on that night.

Again, I thank you for putting up this site, it really is a great site.

Tim (February 05, 2007 5:20 PM)

Hey, I've enjoyed reading your site for the past few years, and keep up the great work! One of my favorite memories, not counting the Super Bowl season, was the 2002 playoff game against Cleveland. Our defense was horrible that day, but the way the team kept fighting and eventually prevailed made me absolutely proud to be a member of Steeler Nation. I don't think I've ever heard Heinz Field get as loud as it was that day when Fu scored the winning TD.

Dan Tarquin (February 05, 2007 4:46 PM)

Hi There.

I've been reading your site for probably the whole 10 years.....I check it everyday, and enjoy your updates. Kudo's to you and your enthusiasm. As I've been in LA, New Jersey, and now Arizona during those 10 years, I've always been able to keep up with the goings on with my favorite professional franchise.

Thank you.

Keno Sultan (February 05, 2007 2:26 PM)

I loved the updates of Steelers football and the history of that bone-breaking championship tradition! My 5 best Steelers moments were:

1. The 2005 AFC Wild Card, Divisional, Championship games and Super Bowl XL. The FIRST and ONLY 6th seeded team to win a Super Bowl championship!!!!! No other team has done that...EVER!

2. Assassination of New England's 21-game winning streak. Pittsburgh played like the 70's Steelers on Halloween 2004...knocking out Patriots players one-by-one. I LOVED Townsend's INT return for a touchdown and Bettis' two-yard TD run in the third quarter!!

3. Doug Brien's missed two FG's. TWO in a span of 1:58! Pittsburgh was the tougher team and imposed their will on a fatigued NY Jets team and won it on Jeff Reed's FG! Classic!

4. Pittsburgh's 27-10 domination of Baltimore in the 2001 playoffs. Kordell Stewart reached the peak of his Pittsburgh career on that ONE game!!

5. 1995 AFC championship. I'll never forget the sight of Steelers players and fans rejoicing when Harbaugh's Hail Mary fell incomplete in the end zone!!!!!!

Other moments: Beating Cleveland three times in 1994 and 2002, Joey Porter's monster game against Oakland in 2002, anytime Pittsburgh defended their turf and upheld the tradition at Three Rivers Stadium and Heinz Field!!!!!

GO STEELERS!!!!! Only AFC team to win 15 games in the regular season, six AFC titles, five Super Bowl titles, numerous division championships, and a bone-breaking tradition second to none!!!!!

P.S. I loved Bill Cowher's humorous comment to former Denver running back Terrell Davis on NFL Network after the Steelers 34-17 AFC title win that avenged the 1997 title game loss: "By the way, this one's for Terrell because he ran all over us the last time." Classic!

Jason Marianna (February 05, 2007 2:22 PM)

Congrats on 10 years of excellence. This website is proof positive of why the Steelers, and their fans, are the greatest in sports.

Here's to another ten years!

Jeff Armstrong (February 05, 2007 11:31 AM)

It's your boy Jeff in Atlanta. Congrats on keeping this site going for 10 whole years! I hate that I just found this site in 2005, but I'm glad I did. It's cool we got to celebrate a Steelers Super Bowl title together (esp. since you missed the run in the 70's). That sure was fun, wasn't it?? And I appreciate the fact that you write me back in as prompt a manner as possible, since i'm sure you're busy as hell. Your site and your personal feedback gives me a feel for Pittsburgh, since i've never set foot there a day in my life (I do plan to make the pilgrimage to Pittsburgh one of these days). I enjoy our conversations about everything from Pitt Panther and Steelers football, those jailbirds and crybabies in Cincy, to our respective fantasy football teams. I've got three more Pitt-related questions for you: what the hell does "yinzer" mean [editor's note: some good definitions here], what does Iron City beer taste like [editor's note: like water from the Monongahela River] and how is everyone in the city reacting to the fact that Omar Epps is our head coach, the first celebrity to coach in the NFL? [editor's note: it's his best role since Higher Learning] Love the site, man - keep up the great work!!

P.S. I was perusing through your site highlights and lowlights and memorable quotes and laughed out loud when you said you replaced your Greg Lloyd game jersey with Kendrell Bell's and then he's gone quickly and pretty much forgotten. I too have a K. Bell jersey and instead of wanting to get rid of it, i look at it as an "Instant Throwback." In fact, next party or event, i'm sporting it. But what's even funnier is that i was THIS CLOSE to buying a Kordell jersey, esp. after his 2001 Pro Bowl season. Whew! So who did you sport on game days after the Bell disaster?? [editor's note: I actually wore the Kendrell Bell jersey all thru the 2005 playoffs and it brought good luck, so I wore it to Detroit for the Super Bowl as well]

Christian (February 05, 2007 9:43 AM)

Hey there

Your site is just the best Steelers (or even Sports) site on the internet. What makes it so special is the personal point of view (the rants are the most fun :D ), which you don't get in the boring nfl.com etc. game recaps. Also, the Special Features like Top 10 are awesome. It's the only website I visit concerning the Steelers. There's no unnecessary 'correctness' in your reports (as opposed to official sources), it's just the real thing! You don't hide your opinion. That's it.

Just keep it up, and thank you (thats no regular by-the-way 'thank you', I MEAN it) for this great website

I'm sorry for my mistakes, my native language is not english :)

Christian, from Germany

Math Caron (February 05, 2007 9:36 AM)

Hey M. SteelerTribute.com!

I just wanted to say that your site is the greatest of all. I always can't wait for the next article. I've been looking this site since about 2001 and it keeps getting better. I liked your post-game comments because some part you are often thinking the same way as me and I also liked you're critics about everything from the off the field, to the game and even from the way the announcers comment the game (I was so pissed off that Phil Simms was announcing the Superbowl which the FREAKING Colts won). By the way, I am writing at 9:00AM the day after Peyton won his title. But it makes me feel so good that the Steelers beated them last year in a dramatic way. I'm still living the last year superbowl win. O.K., my favorite steelers moments in the last decade. Certainly, the rising of Ben in 2004 and the fact that it was one of the greatest season ever which I am still watching the week 6 game vs the Cowboys (Testaverde's game) and the Halloween game(which I exactly predicted the score before the game) vs the Pats that ended their 21 game winning streak. Then, the 2006 playoffs were so incredible. The fact that the offense played so great during that string and what about the D! I also liked the 1997 week 9 game against Jacksonville in which Kordell played one of his best game (at that time, I thought he would be the greatest scrambling QB ever). The saddest moments of that decade, in my opinion, came almost all this year. The Bill Cowher resignation was a heartbreaking lost to me, as much as Chuck Noll retirement. I think Bill and his staff were one of the best crew ever to coach the game. The 2004 week 17 game against the Bills proved it. Steelers were playing red hot and playoff berth searching Buffalo Bills with almost all of their backups and came up with the win. This is only one example of their greatness. I also think that the fact that we missed the playoffs this year killed in part the hype of The Nation. Just the way the team seemed to dominate the games and to come away with losses and the fact that we on need ONE FREAKING WIN to make the playoffs. They were on a run at the end of the season and the steelers would have been so much feared in the postseason. So, I only wanted to congrat you for your great site, keep it good.

From the biggest fan of the site and the Steelers in Montreal, Quebec, Canada (CFL sucks)

Keith B. (February 04, 2007 11:51 PM)

Hello, I just wanted to say that I really enjoy your site... I discovered it a few years back during the 2003 season. I saved it under my favorites and have been returning every week since.

I really enjoy your previews and recaps of all the games, and both of our opinions and views of Steeler "going-ons" seem to be right in line with each other. I have to say my favorite part of your site is the "Top 10 Games of the 90s and 2000s" section. And, up until the NFL Nazis removed the vids from YouTube, I loved all the highlights and memories the Steelers have given us over the years. I do have a question as to when the Top 10 Games of the 2000s will be updated, because as great as the #1 win over Cleve was, I believe the Divisional game against the Colts last season certainly tops that one. [editor's note: I totally agree]

All in all, I love your site and will continue to enjoy your site until either the Steelers leave Pittsburgh (!!), or until you get tired of doing this site... Hopefully neither will happen. Take Care. Here we go Steelers, here we go...

Jason (February 04, 2007 10:59 PM)

I check this site on my weekly routine. It is so nice to have news coming from a fans angle. keep up the great work.
